Environmental Science

Christleton High School  is one of the very few Cheshire Schools to offer this subject to their students.  Environmental Science is offered as an option to students in Year 9.  The course is concerned with the ways in  the which human activities are affecting the environment and finding solutions to these problems.  Included in the course are practical activities in the school grounds,  for example noise pollution surveys and tree mapping and identification.
In Year 10 we have 87 students following the GCSE course which is concerned with:

  • Ecological aspects of marine life

  • Woodlands

  • Foods

  • Ponds

  • Agriculture

  • Forestry

  • Water supply

  • Pesticides and fertilisers

All students attend a residential fieldwork course in analysing where they study marine ecology and the small town of Beaumaris.  This work comprises 20% of the marks for the GCSE examination.
At 'A' Level the Environmental Course has a much higher  scientific content.
