Careers

"Essentially people who feel good about themselves perform well." - Charles Hanoy.

The Careers Department is the largest in the School!  All members of staff are part of this department; it is recognised that the delivery of the programme is a team effort.  Staff work closely with the Careers Service (Careers Connection) and many friends in industry.
Form tutors deliver much of the Careers Education Programme for Years 7-13.  Year
9 is where the Careers Department begins to have a bigger impact.  Students are helped to make decisions on Options and Choice in Year 10/11.  Many visitors from industry and college are invited into school to talk to students.  Year 9 are also introduced to the Careers Library in school.

Year 10 sees an even greater involvement.  Each year a Pre Work Experience Conference is organized to help team building skills, communication skills and presentational skills.  This year there will be over forty-five visitors attending the conference.  For the first time we have all the Colleges of Further Education helping with the workshops - West Cheshire College, Mid-Cheshire and South Cheshire.  The day will consist of three different workshops:

    • Presenting yourself positively - the importance of promoting a positive self-image.
    • Greetings - a team building exercise involving design and production.
    • Get that job!  Tips on telephone techniques and interview skills.

A fortnight's work experience follows the conference and each student is then seen by a member of staff who makes a report on the time spent in work experience.
The I.T. department also plays a big part in the Careers Department. Every Year 10 student follows a program of KUDOS which is used to get a list of what type of careers would be suitable for the chosen student. The list of careers suitable is found from answers that students give to various questions. Both the KUDOS answers and work experience records go into the students' R.O.A.

Year 11 is also a very important year for the students. Careers interviews are performed by the careers officers and there is also a careers convention that every student attends.
After mock exams in December, the students all have interviews with experienced interviewers. Each interview is reported on and is found helpful by all students for future interviews.

Each form room also has a careers noticeboard where information about various careers is displayed for students to act on.

Overall, the careers department is key to the future employment of all Christleton students.
